President and Project Manager:
Hi! I'm Jim Poyzer. I am president and project manager of the "Not Just Another House.com."
As a smaller builder (28 homes so far) I have been waiting out the construction downturn.
2010 appears to be the start of recovery for the house construction business as I have been visiting
with several families about possible construction.
For the past 3 years I have been busy remodeling homes, doing miscellaneous special projects, farming,
and teaching. I teach Physics and House Construction at the Network. See www.thenetworkconnection.net.
The time off from building new houses and time spent remodeling has given me new insights to construction
details - things like what causes water condensation in basements, how to flash gutters that end against
vertical siding, how to install new products for flashing windows. In the past few months I've enjoyed two
books, "What Not to Build, Does and Don'ts of Exterior Home Design" and "Patterns of Home, The Ten Essentials
of Enduring Design." As Samuel Clemens said, 'The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man
who can't read them.'
Construction History:
I was taught house construction by Miles Rohan, the shop instructor at Everly High School, back in the '70s.
I was teaching physics, science, and math. My free hour during the day was when Miles was teaching
house construction to his high school seniors. After two years of tagging along with the class I
built a house for ourselves and a "spec" house. About that time I switched careers to work with computers
and for the next 20 some years I worked my way up the corporate ladder from computer programmer to analyst,
manager, IT director, and consultant. For 3 and 1/2 years I helped Regency Homes find, install, and enhance
a new computer system to handle their 600+ homes a year business. (Before their demise.) Of course that was
a great place to get reacquainted with the construction business. Consultants don't get to stay for ever so
when it was time to leave I decided to build houses for a living (2004). I'm still loving it!
